About this book

This book focuses on the lesser known wild edibles (but perhaps more abundant) which can be found all around Europe. This book intentionally leaves out the well-known berries such as blackberry, bilberry, raspberry and wild strawberry, as well as plants growing exclusively near the sea. The climate you will find these plants in is humid continental type characteristic of central and eastern Europe. The main goal of this book is to get you to recognize more plants and for you to use them in your daily life.

Poka Dan Stefan

My name is Poka Dan Stefan and I had a marvelous childhood growing up in the countryside. With guidance from my elders, I was picking wild mushrooms in the forest near where my grandmother lives by the age of 10. Yet the passion for foraging only really came later in life. I got going by picking sorrel as a child and later on I learned about ramsons from my grandmother and picked that. From there I developed the ambition to learn how to forage properly and use what I found in my cooking. Foraging is an important part of our heritage and it’s a tradition I hope many others will learn and pass on.
